How to Top Up a Gift Card on a SagePay Terminal

Add funds to a customer's physical gift card using a SagePay terminal. This guide walks through the swipe-and-add flow on the terminal touchscreen.

Before You Begin

  • You must have access to your SagePay terminal.
  • Have the customer's physical gift card ready to swipe.

Step-by-Step: Top Up a Gift Card

  1. Select Top Up
    On the terminal touchscreen, select Gift Card and then Top Up Card.

  2. Enter Card and Amount
    Swipe or enter the gift card details, then enter the amount you want to add and choose OK.

  3. Print Receipts
    Once approved, the terminal prints receipts (merchant first, then customer) and returns to the Gift Card menu — press the red Cancel button to go back to the main screen.

  • Verify the amount: Always confirm the top-up amount with the customer before processing.

  • Provide receipts: Give the customer their receipt copy as proof of the top-up.
