How to Set Up External Receipt Printing on Clover POS
Configure an external order printer so that online orders print automatically to your kitchen. This is done through the Order Ahead app on your Clover device.
Before You Begin
- Your order printer must be set up on your Clover device and connected to the same network as the Clover.
- You should have admin access to the Order Ahead app on Clover.
Step-by-Step: Add an External Printer
Check the Printer in the Printers App
Open the Printers app on Clover and confirm that your printer appears in the list.Important: The printer must be connected to the same network as your Clover device to appear in the Printers app.
Open Order Ahead Preferences
Open the Order Ahead app on your Clover device. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Preferences.Go to Printer Management
Scroll down to the Printer Management section and tap Add a Printer.Select the Printer
Choose Local Area Network as the connection option. The app will search for printers on the same network as your Clover device. After a few moments, your printer should appear in the list.Tap the printer name to select it. Make sure the Send Orders to Printer option is enabled.
What Happens After You Save
Your Order Ahead online orders will now automatically print to the selected kitchen printer.
Note: If you have multiple order printers set up, Order Ahead orders will print to the first printer listed in the Printers app.
Tips & Best Practices
Test the printer: Place a test order to confirm tickets print correctly before going live.
Check network stability: A weak or unstable network connection is the most common cause of missed prints.
