Split Payments in Cashless

Split payments allow a customer's order balance to be paid using more than one method. In Facilipay's Cashless system, this can enable part of a transaction to be paid in one way (e.g. cashless balance or card) and the remainder with another payment method.

Overview

By default, some locations choose to disable split payment functionality within the Facilipay Cashless app. When split payments are disabled, Cashless will only allow the full amount to be paid in a single transaction.

In certain setups, a variable minimum payment limit (for example, up to £5.00) can be activated. If such a limit is configured, the system will only allow split payments when the first portion meets or exceeds the minimum. The cashier is notified of this during the transaction.

How Split Payments Work in Cashless

When split payments are enabled in the Facilipay Cashless app:

  1. Start a Sale — The customer's transaction is initiated at the point of sale.

  2. Partial Payment — The first partial payment method is applied up to any configured minimum limit.

  3. Remaining Balance — The remaining balance can then be paid with another accepted method (e.g. another payment type or cashless balance).

  4. Complete Transaction — Once all portions are paid, the sale is completed and recorded.

If necessary, you can mix more than one payment type to settle the same order when split payments are active (e.g. combining cashless balance and card payment).

How to Enable Split Payments

Split payments must be activated by Facilipay support for your location:

  • Contact support@facilipay.io to request split payment functionality.

  • Provide your business details and specify the split payment behaviour you require (full split enabled or a custom minimum amount).

Once enabled, your Cashless app will allow split payment where supported by your register settings.

Important Notes

  • Disabled by default: Some installations have split payment disabled for compliance or business policy reasons.

  • Minimum limits: If a minimum partial payment limit is set, transactions below that threshold cannot be split.

  • Train your staff: Make sure staff understand how split payments work in your setup so they can guide customers effectively.

What Happens After Payment

  • The order is marked paid in your system once all portions are successfully processed.

  • Receipts or confirmation screens reflect each payment method used.
